A guide to the accessibility panel available on every page
Look for the small figure icon in the bottom-right corner of every page. It opens a panel of display and reading controls you can mix and match — no account, no download, and nothing is sent anywhere: every choice is stored only in your own browser.
Opening the panel
- Click the circular icon in the bottom-right corner of the page (it says "Open accessibility settings" to screen readers).
- Toggle any combination of settings below — changes apply immediately, with no need to reload.
- Click the × in the panel header, press Esc, or click anywhere outside the panel to close it. Your settings stay applied after closing.
Text size
A / A+ / A++
Scales the whole page up — text, buttons, icons and spacing together — rather than just the font, so nothing on the page ends up mismatched in size.
Text size → click A+ for a moderate increase, A++ for the largest.
Display
High contrast
Switches the page to plain black text on a white background with underlined blue links, removing background colours, shadows and tinted panels that can reduce readability.
Grayscale
Removes all colour from the page. Useful for checking that information isn't conveyed by colour alone, or simply as a lower-stimulation reading mode.
Highlight links
Underlines every link and adds a dashed outline around it, so links are identifiable without relying on colour contrast against surrounding text.
Reading
Dyslexia-friendly font
Switches body text to OpenDyslexic where available (a font with weighted letter bottoms designed to reduce letter confusion), or your browser's next best sans-serif if it isn't installed, with slightly wider letter spacing.
Extra spacing
Increases line height, letter spacing and word spacing across the page's text (headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, labels) — a layout many readers with dyslexia or low vision find easier to track line by line.
Reading guide
Adds a highlighted horizontal band that follows your mouse cursor down the page, to help keep your place on long or dense pages.
Move your mouse over the page after turning this on — the guide tracks vertical mouse position.
Motion & focus
Reduce motion
Cuts animations and transitions to near-instant across the site — scroll reveals, hover effects, the guided tour spotlight — for anyone sensitive to on-screen movement.
Strong focus outline
Draws a thick, high-contrast outline around whichever link, button or field currently has keyboard focus. It only appears once something is focused — nothing changes until you interact with the page using the keyboard.
Turn it on, then press Tab a few times — the outline jumps between links, buttons and form fields as you go.
Audio
Read page aloud
Uses your browser's built-in text-to-speech to read the page's main content out loud. Click "Stop reading" (or toggle the button again) to cancel at any point.
To read only part of a page, select (highlight) that text first — the button changes to "Read selection aloud" and reads back just the highlighted passage instead of the whole page.
Use the 0.75×–2× buttons underneath to set reading speed. Changing speed while something is already being read restarts it immediately at the new speed, from the beginning of that passage.
Voice and pitch come from your operating system's speech settings, not from DodecaGreen — if no voice is available, the button will let you know.
Resetting
The Reset all settings button at the bottom of the panel switches every option back off and returns text size to normal, in one click.
How your settings are stored
Your choices are saved in your browser's local storage under the site's own address — never on a server, and never linked to your identity. This means:
- Settings persist as you move between DodecaGreen pages, and are still applied next time you visit from the same browser on the same device.
- They do not carry over to a different browser or device, or to private/incognito windows.
- Clearing your browser's site data (or its cache/cookies) for DodecaGreen will also clear these preferences.
Our commitment
The people behind DodecaGreen are doing our best to make this content accessible to everyone, whatever tools or techniques they use to browse the web. The accessibility panel on this page is one part of that — but we know it's an ongoing effort, not a finished one, and that we won't catch every issue ourselves.
If you come across something that's hard to use — a control you can't reach with a keyboard, text that's hard to read, a page that doesn't work well with your screen reader, or anything else — we'd genuinely appreciate hearing about it. Reports like this are how this list of what still needs fixing actually gets shorter.
For our formal conformance status against WCAG 2.1 AA and a list of known limitations, see the accessibility statement.
