Who we are

DodecaGreen is an open educational resource for green chemistry, built and maintained by Dr Benji Fenech-Salerno at Imperial College London. We host the site on GitHub Pages, which means there is no backend server or database behind it — just static files delivered to your browser. If you'd like to reach us, you can write to [email protected] any time.

Short version: We don't run accounts, we don't run a server, and we don't sell data. The only thing that can identify you is an optional Google Analytics cookie, and we only set it if you click "Accept analytics" — if you decline, nothing is stored. You're welcome to change your mind at any time using the button further down this page.

What we collect

  • Calculator inputs and scores: we never collect these. They stay in your browser's local storage and are never sent anywhere, including to us.
  • PDF export and "session save": both features run entirely on your device, using your browser's print function and local storage, so no data is transmitted when you use them.
  • Analytics, if you accept the cookie: we receive the pages you visit, how long you spend on each, your approximate country (derived from an anonymised IP address), your browser and device type, how you arrived at the site, and which tools, principles, exports, or links you use.
  • Analytics, if you decline: we set no cookie and collect no identifiable data. Google may still receive an anonymous, cookieless ping, which it uses only for aggregate modelling and which contains nothing that identifies you.
  • Forms or accounts: we don't have any. There is nothing on this site to sign up for or submit.

Third parties

  • Google Analytics (GA4): we only load this after you consent, and Google processes the resulting data under a Data Processing Agreement — you can read Google's privacy policy for details.
  • Google Fonts, jsDelivr, Plotly, and unpkg: these deliver fonts and charting code on every page load, regardless of your cookie choice. They're static file requests with no personal data attached, but as with any request to an external host, your IP address is visible to them as part of normal internet routing.
  • No advertising or data brokers: we've explicitly disabled ad-related tracking in our analytics configuration, and we don't use ad networks, pixels, or remarketing tags anywhere on the site.
  • No sale or sharing of data: we don't sell, rent, or share any data with third parties beyond the processors named above.

Legal basis and your rights — UK / EU (GDPR)

  • Legal basis: we rely on your explicit consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR) before setting the analytics cookie, and you can decline without losing any functionality.
  • International transfer: Google may process data outside the UK/EEA, and it does so under Standard Contractual Clauses.
  • Retention: Google Analytics retains event-level data for 14 months; we don't retain anything ourselves.
  • Your rights: you can withdraw consent, request access to any data we hold about you, or request its erasure, at any time.
  • Complaints: UK users can contact the ICO, and EU users can contact their local data protection authority.
  • Opt-out tool: if you'd like to opt out of Google Analytics across every site you visit, not just this one, Google offers an opt-out browser add-on.

Your rights — US (CCPA / CPRA)

  • Categories collected: we only ever collect internet or device activity, such as pages viewed, browser type, and approximate location — never identifiers, financial, health, or biometric data.
  • Sale or sharing: we don't sell or share personal information, and no cross-context behavioural advertising takes place on this site.
  • Your rights: you have the right to know what's collected, to request deletion, and to non-discrimination for exercising either right — just contact us using the email address above.
  • Opt-out: declining the cookie banner, or using the reset button below, fully opts you out. There's no separate "Do Not Sell" process to worry about, because we never sell anything in the first place.

Children's privacy

DodecaGreen is written for students, educators, and practising chemists. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.

Your cookie preference

You can change your analytics cookie preference at any time using the button below.

This clears your stored choice and shows the consent banner again the next time you visit any DodecaGreen page.

Changes to this policy

If our data practices ever change, we'll update this page to match, and we'll reflect that in the "Last updated" date at the top.
